The Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology (formerly School of Hygiene) Eleyele, lbadan was established on 1st April, 1933 with the objective of training intermediate level health manpower in Nigeria. Those crops of trainees were known as sanitary inspectors. As time went on it was upgraded to train Environmental Health Officers (then Public Health Inspectors). However, it came to the fore as policy changes in government manifested itself that other cadres of Health Care Providers fall within the purview of the widening scope staring the school in the face. So there came the introduction of Public Health Nursing, the Medical Records and Biostatistics (now Health Information Management) and much later Community Health programme for the training of Community Health Officers and Community Health Extension Workers (Senior and Junior).
