HEALTH ASSISTANTS'


The urgent need for this cadre of health team cannot be over emphasized. It has been discovered that Local Government recruit this cadre as unskilled staff only to be trained by Nurses (on the job training), to assist them in their various assignments such as delivery, giving of injection e.t.c in order to make up for lack in the field of man power. Realising the dangers that could emanate from this act, this cadre are now trained on their own job description and enlighten them on dangers involved in performing unauthorized functions. They are being trained for two years as it is schedules in the scheme of service.


At the end of the training, they becomes more skilled in prevention of infection through proper cleaning of the ward and the handling of patients and are awarded certificates. Course Objectives The objective of the programme is to produce a cadre of manpower that will perform the following functions in various units in the hospitals and the Local Governments. (a) Ensure adequate cleaning of the wards. (b) Prevent infection in the ward. (c) Proper handling of patients going for X-rays and laboratory tests. (d) Identify dangers associated with delivery conducted by unskilled hands. Prospect for Development This course will enhance promotion in their places of work it will generate some interest in the students to pursue their academics in some health related courses in thefuture.


Admission Requirement

(Location of Training is Satellite Campus, Okeho, Kajola Local Govt, Oyo State)
5 O’Level Credit passes in WASCE or NECO Examination which must include English language, Biology/Health Science and any other two subject.
Candidates with lower qualification but with working experience in the health sector may be considered.
Duration: 2 years (Four Semesters)
